Andrzej Dyrcz

Andrzej Dyrcz (born January 9, 1933 in Cieszyn , Poland ) is a Polish ornithologist and ecologist .

Life

From 1950 to 1953 Dyrcz studied biology at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow . In 1955 he obtained his master's degree from the University of Wroclaw . In 1960 he received his doctorate as Dr. rer. nat. at the University of Wroclaw. In 1969 he completed his habilitation in the field of bird ecology. In 1982 he became professor of animal ecology at the University of Wroclaw. In 1975 he founded the Department of Bird Ecology at the University of Wroclaw, which he headed until 2003.

The main research areas of Dyrcz include the behavioral ecology ( sociobiology ) of birds with special consideration of the mating systems within the genus of the reed warbler ( Acrocephalus ), the breeding ecology of birds (including the neotropical species), the observation of bird populations in swamp habitats, the study of the Polish avifauna and the protection of nature (in particular the protection of the river valleys in the lowlands).
