Andrzej Mitan

Andrzej Mitan (born October 12, 1950 in Pionki ; † November 4, 2018 in Grójec ) was a Polish singer, composer, concept and video artist, poet, art organizer and publisher.

Mitan studied at the Maria Curie Skłodowska University in Lublin, at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw and at the Catholic University of Lublin John Paul II. Since the late 1960s he has organized festivals, exhibitions, concerts, symposia, among others at REMONT -Club in Warsaw, the Ujazdowski Contemporary Art Center, the Mazovian Center for Culture and Art and the Mazovian Center for Contemporary Art “Elektrownia” in Radom. In addition, he founded music groups such as Onomatopeja, Święta Racja , Super Grupa Bez Fałszywej Skromności , Niezależne Studio Muzyki Elektroakustycznej , Koncert Figur Niemożliwych , Związek Byłych Dzieci , with whom he realizes his music, a crossover of free jazz, improvisations, and music. In addition, he also created video performances and artistic objects.

From 1982 to 1988 he presented works by composers from the experimental studio of the Polish radio ( Andrzej Bieżan , Krzysztof Knittel ), improvisation musicians ( Andrzej Przybielski , Helmut Nadolski ) and visual artists ( Jarosław Kozłowski , Włodzimierz Borowski ) in the Muzyki Nowej Remont club published in limited editions. With Cezary Staniszewski and Emmett Williams , he organized the Warszawie Międzynarodowe Seminarium Sztuki ETC in 1987 , in which more than 100 international artists took part. His own works have been exhibited in galleries in Warsaw, Poznan, Krakow, Wroclaw, Berlin, Moscow, Belgrade, Vienna, Zurich, Stockholm, Budapest and New York. In 2017 he retired from active art business after 50 years and died on November 4, 2018 in Grójec.
