Andy Prieboy

Andy Prieboy (born April 17, 1955 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American musician , author and former morgue guard.

Life

Prieboy was born in Los Angeles and raised in Indiana . At the beginning of his career he replaced Stan Ridgway in 1983 as lead singer for the band Wall of Voodoo . Seven Days In Sammystown was the first Wall of Voodoo album with Prieboy in 1986. This was followed in 1987 by the record Happy Planet and a year later the live album The Ugly Americans In Australia , before the group broke up.

Prieboy then signed a contract as a songwriter with MCA Music Publishing . He began working on his first solo album Upon My Wicked Son , which was released in 1990. This contained the song Tomorrow Wendy , which is about a woman who dies of AIDS . Prieboy sang the piece in a duet with Johnette Napolitano , whose band Concrete Blonde also released the song on their album Bloodletting . The System Syn group produced a cover version in the early 2000s . Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris also interpreted his song Loving the Highway Man from the same album. In 1991 Prieboy released the EP Montezuma Was a Man of Faith , in 1995 his second solo album Sins of Our Fathers came out.

From the mid to late 1990s Prieboy played at Club Largo (Los Angeles) with Rita D'Albert in the musical White Trash Wins Lotto . This was about the rise and fall of a character very similar to Axl Rose . The play was also shown at the Roxy Theater on the Sunset Strip . Moreover Prieboy and his crew performed a medley of white trash in the late-night talk show of Conan O'Brien on.

Andy Prieboy is also the co-author of Merrill Markoe's novel The Psycho Ex Game , which is based on his song Psycho Ex .

Prieboy's cover version of the Canned Heat classic On the Road Again (released on his first album) was the theme song for the Chuck Norris film The Hitman . The Wall Of Voodoo single Far Side of Crazy was used in the 1986 film Head Office . Prieboy's demo for the song Man Talk , which also appeared on the Upon My Wicked Son album, and other unreleased demos were used in the 1989 film Cutting Class, starring Brad Pitt and Roddy McDowall . In 1991 Prieboy himself had a short appearance as a musician in the feature film Blood and Concrete .

In 2012 Prieboy released the download EP Every Lady Gets A Song on his own website. The four songs were recorded in collaboration with former The Dils bassist Tony Kinman and former Devo drummer David Kendrick.
