Vegetative characteristics

The anemone ornamental flower grows as a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 10 to 25 centimeters. The blue-green and bare basal leaves are not yet fully developed at the time of flowering. They are multi-pinnate, with the lower pinna being stalked between 10 and 13 millimeters long. Usually there is only one stem leaf, which is similar to the basal leaves, but somewhat smaller and less pinnate.

Generative characteristics

On the unbranched stem there is usually only one flower , which is between 30 and 40 millimeters in diameter. The 10 to 18 petals are white to pale pink and have a linear (to wedge-shaped) shape. They become twice as long as the whitish and membranous sepals , which are about seven to 13 millimeters long. The pale yellow stamens and carpels are numerous. The reticulated, veined fruit (nutlets) with a beak is 4.5 to 6 millimeters long.

The flowering period extends from March to May.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 32.

Occurrence

The ornamental anemone flower is an Austrian endemic of the north-eastern Limestone Alps . This kind is absent to rare in the federal states of Upper , Lower Austria and Styria .

Pine forests or damp, shady rocks and scree in the montane altitude range (about 700 to 1200 meters) are preferred as locations . The species only thrives on dolomite and lime.
