history

Angénieux was founded in 1935 by Pierre Angénieux . Above all, complex optics were produced for cinema film production and presentation. In the preliminary phase of the Second World War , military optical systems were manufactured by order of the French government. During the occupation of France 1940–1945, the Angénieux company mainly carried out research work. As a result, Angénieux produced the first retrofocus optics in 1950 .

In 1956 the zoom lens was developed . In the following decades up to the present day, outstanding directors and cameramen such as Stanley Kubrick or Peter Jackson used Angénieux zoom optics in the production of feature films. The Optics Optimo and HD AIF, which have been produced since 2002, together with the Zeiss and Cooke models, are among the most powerful, but also the most expensive zoom lenses on the market.

The detailed images of the moon, first made in 1964 by an American ranger probe, were made with Angénieux optics. Angénieux lenses were also used for the first manned moon landing in 1969, for example to transmit the first steps of a person on the moon. The NASA almost all equipped Ranger - Apollo and - Gemini missions and the Skylab made with lenses of the French manufacturer.

In 1978 Angénieux began manufacturing laser-controlled infrared zoom optics. The first HDTV optics were manufactured in 1986. In 1990 the company was certified according to ISO 9001 . The first HMD systems were developed in 1998 . Completely new manufacturing and research facilities were put into operation in 1998 and 2006.

The company's innovations have been recognized with numerous prizes, including twice the Oscar (1964 and 1990). The company has left a lasting influence, especially on the manufacturers of cinema , photo and television optics. For example, since 1960 all zoom optics have been manufactured in accordance with the Angenieux 1960 10 × zoom concept.
