Ange Édouard Poungui

Ange Édouard Poungui (* 1942 in Bouenza , French Equatorial Africa , today: Republic of the Congo ) is a Congolese politician of the Parti Congolais du Travail (PCT), who was Prime Minister of the Republic of the Congo between 1984 and 1989 .

Life

Poungui was a member of the Parti Congolais du Travail (PCT) founded in 1969 and was appointed to a government office for the first time as finance minister during the tenure of President Marien Ngouabi in 1971, which he held until 1973. At the same time, he served as Vice President between 1972 and 1973. After Henri Lopès took over the re-established office of Prime Minister on July 28, 1973, Poungui became Minister of Planning and held this office from December 18, 1975 to 1976 in the government of his successor Louis Sylvain Goma .

On August 7, 1984, Poungui finally succeeded Louis Sylvain Goma as Prime Minister of the Republic of the Congo and held this office for five years until he was succeeded by Alphonse Poaty-Souchlaty on August 7, 1989. He later joined the Union panafricaine pour la démocratie sociale ( UPDS).
