Isidore Mvouba , also M'Vouba (* 1954 in Kindamba ) was Prime Minister of the Republic of the Congo from January 2005 to September 2009 .

Political career

Mvouba comes from Kindamba near the capital Brazzaville . In 1977 he became an employee of the railway.

He joined the then unity party Parti Congolais du Travail (PCT) and is a member of its Politburo . Mvouba is considered a close confidante of long-time President Denis Sassou-Nguesso , whose campaign manager he was in the presidential elections of 1992 and 2002. After Sassou-Nguesso was voted out of office, he turned down President Pascal Lissouba's offer to become Minister of Commerce.

Since Sassou-Nguesso's return to power in 1997, Mvouba has held various positions in the government. He was also the first secretary of the PCT's youth organization, the Union de la jeunesse socialiste congolaise (UJSC).

Mvouba was appointed Prime Minister on January 7, 2005 by President Sassou-Nguesso. The office was refilled for the first time since October 1997. The president's decision also aroused criticism because the constitution does not provide for the office of prime minister.

A new government was formed on September 15, abolishing the post of prime minister. Mvouba was instead appointed Minister of Economy and Transport.
