Edouard Ambroise Noumazalaye

Edouard Ambroise Noumazalaye (* 1933 in Likouala ; † November 17, 2007 in Paris ) was Prime Minister of the Republic of the Congo from 1966 to 1968 .

Political career

Noumazalaye became Prime Minister on May 6, 1966 under President Alphonse Massemba-Débat, who came to power through a coup in 1963 . He belonged to the then unity party Mouvement National de la Révolution (MNR). In September 1967 he visited the People's Republic of China . His term ended on January 12, 1968 when Massemba-Débat fired him.

He later joined the new unity party Parti Congolais du Travail (PCT), which was founded in 1969 and ruled the country until the transition to democracy in 1992 and again since 1997. In the 1990s he was its general secretary. After the elections to the Senate on July 11, 2002, he became its president in August and later gave up his party office. 56 of the 60 elected senators belong to or are close to the PCT of President Denis Sassou-Nguesso , who has been in power again since 1997 .
