Louis Sylvain Goma

Louis Sylvain Goma (born July 28, 1941 in Pointe-Noire , French Equatorial Africa , now the Republic of the Congo ) was Prime Minister of the Republic of the Congo from 1975 to 1984 and 1991.

He became a soldier and completed higher mathematical studies in Versailles until 1961. He then entered the Saint Cyr Officers Academy and left it as an engineer officer.

Political career

From 1964 he held senior positions in the Congolese army, such as deputy director of the Central Directorate of Military Engineering.

In August 1968 he became Deputy Chief of Staff of the "Congolese National People's Army" and in February 1969 Chief of Staff with promotion to captain .

He was a member of the military committee of the Parti Congolais du Travail (PCT) unity party formed in 1969 . On December 18, 1975 he became Prime Minister for the first time under President Marien Ngouabi, who had ruled since a coup in the summer of 1968 . After his assassination on March 18, 1977, the PCT acted as a collective leadership until April 3, when the deceased's cousin, Joachim Yhombi-Opango , became the new head of state. He was pushed out of office by his colleagues on February 5, 1979 and replaced a few days later by Denis Sassou-Nguesso . Goma remained head of government until August 7, 1984.

In the final phase of Sassou-Nguesso's reign he was head of government for a second time from January 8 to June 8, 1991. He was replaced by a transitional government that transformed the previous one-party state into a democracy.

He later became Secretary General of the Central African Economic Community, Communauté Economique des Etats de l'Afrique Centrale (CEEAC), based in Libreville , Gabon .

Since April 21, 2012 he has been convened as the Ambassador of the Republic of the Congo to Brazil and Paraguay . He presented his certification to President Dilma Rousseff on January 23, 2013 .
