Angelica Elsa Birgitta Ljungqvist (born December 20, 1974 in Danderyd ) is a former Swedish volleyball and beach volleyball player .
Career indoor volleyball
Ljungqvist played in her youth at home Vallentuna VBK. From 1993 to 1996 she played with the Rainbow Wahine at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa , with whom she was runner-up in the US National Collegiate Athletic Association in 1996 . After a season in the Brazilian Super League at VC Dayvit, the middle blocker played at Turkish top club VakıfBank Ankara , with whom she reached the final of the European Champions League in 1999 . After that, Ljungqvist played for several years with Italian clubs and two seasons with RC Cannes , with whom she won the French championship and cup double in 2004 and 2006. After a 2006/07 season in Japan with Toyota Auto Body Queenseis , she ended her indoor career.
Ljungqvist also played 58 times for the Swedish national team .
Career beach volleyball
Since 2002 Ljungqvist has also played beach volleyball on the FIVB World Tour alongside Annika Granström . The two Swedes won the national championship twice and also took part in the 2002 European championship in Basel and the 2003 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro . After ending her indoor career in 2007, Ljungqvist concentrated on beach volleyball. With Karin Lundqvist she had her best result on the World Tour with fifth place at the Grand Slam in Gstaad in 2008 . There were also two further fifth places at the FIVB Open tournaments in Myslovice and Sanya . In 2009 Ljungqvist / Lundqvist took part in the World Championships in Stavanger . In 2010 Åsa Gustavsson was Ljungqvist's partner.
Professional
Ljungqvist studied political science in Hawaii and law in Stockholm. She speaks five languages and has also worked as a teacher and commentator for Swedish television in the volleyball competitions of the Olympic Games in 2008 and 2012. Since 2017 she has been the assistant coach of the Rainbow Wahine Hawaii .
