education and profession

Angelika Kuntz, daughter of the internist Erwin Kuntz , submitted her doctoral thesis on immunological and biochemical investigations in Down's syndrome in 1981 at the human medicine department of the University of Giessen . In 1984 she moved to Berlin and began working as a doctor at the Rudolf Virchow Hospital . Until around 2010 she was a university professor at the Charité as a senior physician at the Clinic for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery .

social commitment

At the Virchow Hospital she met her future husband, the oral and maxillofacial surgeon Jürgen Bier . In December 2005, the couple founded the Jona Foundation , which is dedicated to caring for socially disadvantaged children and young people on the basis of Christian faith and practiced Christian charity. In August 2006, the Spandau district office made the building of a former youth club in Staaken available to the foundation . The couple converted the house with their own funds and in September 2006 the care center Jona's Haus was opened. In the years that followed, the facility became a central point of contact for children and young people living in the vicinity. There you will receive regular meals, help with school work and advice. Since the death of her husband in December 2007, she has headed the foundation alone.

The children's and youth welfare facility Jona's Haus der Stiftung was awarded the capital city prize for integration and tolerance (main prize) in 2017 .
