Angelika Hofer
Angelika Hofer (born July 26, 1957 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ; † December 27, 2016 ) was a German behavioral researcher and author. She became known through her books Ein Gänsesommer and Diary of a Mother Goose and the television series of the same name.
Live and act
Angelika Hofer studied biology in Regensburg and Munich . In 1975 she met Konrad Lorenz for the first time during a stay at the Max Planck Institute for Behavioral Physiology in Seewiesen . In the early 1980s, the biologist began working intensively with geese when she raised ten gray geese like a mother goose.
In the tradition of Jane Goodall , Hofer has been spending several weeks with the chimpanzees in the Mahale Mountains National Park since 1994 and studying their behavior. 2002 a television crew turned there with her a 25-minute documentary on the children's channel telecast continued .
In 2007 Angelika Hofer designed the touring exhibition Pantanal - a paradise in danger - in collaboration with the Global Nature Fund .
Several books, three traveling exhibitions and the television productions Diary of a Goose Mother ( WDR 1989), Reencounter with Chimpanzees and Die Gänsemutter Angelika Hofer ( Bavarian TV 2010 ) emerged from the experiences of the trips that Hofer took with her husband, photographer Günter Ziesler , since 1981 ) from the series Lifelines .
In 2016 she died of cancer at the age of 59.
Honors
- In 1976 she received the Hörlein Prize from the Association of German Biologists for her specialist work on the development of young people and the behavior of a mandarin duck reared in isolation by other conspecifics .
- In 1989 she was awarded the City of Füssen's Art and Culture Prize for her projects with the geese .
