Angelika Nebel

Angelika Nebel (born August 16, 1947 in West Berlin ) is a German pianist , piano teacher and university professor .

Angelika Nebel comes from a musical family. She received her first piano lessons at the age of 8 from the Berlin organist and pianist Walter Dickmann, who opened up the path to JS Bach for her at an early age . At the age of 10 she was accepted by the Berlin City Conservatory. Here she received lessons in piano from Hans Reichert and in music theory from Walter Dickmann. She began studying music at the age of 16 with Jürgen Uhde at the State University for Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart , and continued with Werner Hoppstock at the Darmstadt City Academy for Music. She received an artistic stamp from 1968 during her studies with Hans Leygraf at the State University for Music and Theater Hanover, from which she graduated in 1973 with the concert exam.

In 1978 she became a lecturer at Dr. Hoch's Conservatory Frankfurt am Main . In 1981 she received a teaching position at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts . In 1995 she was appointed professor at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf , where she worked until 2014. Angelika Nebel began to give concerts during her student days. She gave numerous concerts in Europe - in Germany, Belgium, Austria, Italy, the Czech Republic, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Latvia - and in South Korea .

Extensive cooperation developed with German and other European radio and television companies such as DLF , hr2 , NDR , SFB, SR, SWR , WDR , Radio Bremen , ZDF Mainz , Radio Zurich, Radio Stockholm and Spanish Radio Madrid.

Angelika Nebel has given concerts at various festivals, such as the Darmstadt Days for Contemporary Music (1970), Frankfurt Feste in the Alte Oper (1982), in the Semperoper Dresden as part of the 2nd Dresden Days of Contemporary Music (1988), at the Robert Schumann- Festival Düsseldorf (2000), the 7th Klevischer Kultursommer (2005), at the Bad Hersfeld Festival Concerts (2012) and the Rheingau Music Festival (2015). She gave master classes in Bad Hersfeld , Essen , Riga / Latvia and in South Korea. Her extensive group of students includes Vita Gajevska, Su-Youn Jung, Yumin Kim, Ulrich Murtfeld, An-hoon Song and Wagner Stefani d'Aragona Malheiro Prado.

In the 1980s Angelika Nebel was one of the pioneers who devoted herself to the compositions of Clara Schumann , which until then were almost unknown in the concert and record sector. She has also played numerous compositions by women composers such as Cécile Chaminade , Harriet Cohen , Violeta Dinescu , Fanny Hensel , Myra Hess and Elinor Remick Warren in concerts, CD and radio recordings.

For several years Angelika Nebel devoted herself particularly to the music of the 20th century. This led to world premieres and dedications of works by composers and arrangers such as Hans Darmstadt , Klaus Kühnl, Mathias Spahlinger , Wagner Stefani d'Aragona Malheiro Prado and Frank Zabel.

She paid tribute to the work of the Spanish composer Padre Antonio Soler (1729–1783), whose extensive sonatas she discovered in collaboration with the American concert pianist and music researcher Frederick Marvin , made it known in concerts in Germany and Spain and published a CD and an article about published his piano music.

Between 2009 and 2018 Angelika Nebel published five CDs with Bach transcriptions.
