history

In its current form, the municipality was created on January 1, 2011 by amalgamating the municipal districts of Gunnared in the north, which had existed since 1989, with the primary areas (primärområde) Angereds Centrum, Gårdstensberget, Lövgärdet and Rannebergen and Lärjedalen in the south with the primary areas of Agnesberg, Bergum, Eriksbo, Gunnilse , Hammarkullen, Hjällbo and Linnarhult. The eleven primary areas continue to exist unchanged.

The originally predominantly populated part of today's urban district extends along its southern edge in the valley of the left Göta-älv tributary Lärjeån ( eponymous for the former district Lärjedalen, literally "Lärjetal"), through which the provincial road ( länsväg ) 190 towards Gråbo - Nossebro runs. Along this, in the area of the city district, the Tatorte Angered (original church village and seat of the parish of the same name / socken, eponymous for the city district), Olofstorp and Stenared are located .

In the western part of the 1960s to 1970s, as part of the million dollar program, several residential areas, somewhat separated from one another due to the hilly terrain, were built in prefabricated construction . It is the largest area of its kind in Gothenburg and one of the largest in Sweden. Since then, the majority of the residents of the city district have lived there, today (2015) around 45,000. In 2015, this de facto continuously built-up area, which is located at some distance from the actual Gothenburg area, was identified by Statistiska centralbyrån as the first independent crime scene Gunnared och Hammarkullen .
