Johann Edmund Anton Lesser , also Johannes Lesser (born May 12, 1852 in Neisse , Silesia, † June 5, 1918 in Berlin ) was a German-Jewish dermatologist .

Life

His father was the future judge Adolph Lesser . After studying medicine at the universities in Bonn , Berlin and Strasbourg , where he also received his doctorate , he went to further professional training with Ferdinand von Hebra in Vienna, as an internist Hermann Senator at the Berlin Kaiserin-Augusta-Hospital and as a dermatologist Oskar Simon in Wroclaw . In 1882 he completed his habilitation in Leipzig .

In 1889 he was appointed associate professor and director of the dermatological clinic in Bern . In 1896 he was appointed associate professor in Berlin and in 1911 the first professor for dermatology in Germany. At the same time he was head of the clinic for skin and venereal diseases at the Charité .

In numerous papers he commented on specific questions relating to skin and venereal diseases, especially syphilis .

He was chairman of the Berlin Dermatological Society and co-editor of the journal Archive for Dermatology and Syphilis , Secretary General and President of the German Society for Combating Venereal Diseases and from 1891 a member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina . In 1889 he was one of the founders of the German Dermatological Society with Joseph Doutrelepont , Moriz Kaposi , Albert Neisser and Philipp Josef Pick . He carried the title of Privy Medical Councilor .

His grave is in the south-west cemetery Stahnsdorf . He was married to Luise Poleck (1859-1939).
