Hermann Senator

Hermann Senator (born December 6, 1834 in Gnesen , † July 14, 1911 in Berlin ) was a German physician.

Life

Senator studied medicine from 1853 to 1857, mainly with Johannes Peter Müller in Bonn . Further teachers were Johann Lukas Schönlein and Ludwig Traube .

He received his doctorate in medicine in 1857 and licensed as a doctor in 1858 . After his habilitation in 1868, he was a private lecturer at the University of Berlin . In 1875 he became associate professor and chief physician for internal medicine at the Kaiserin-Augusta-Hospital .

From 1881 he worked at the Charité . After the death of Friedrich Theodor von Frerichs (1819–1885) he headed the 1st Medical Clinic for half a year. In 1888 this clinic was converted into the 3rd Medical Clinic, of which he became director.

In 1892 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

Hermann Senator was a devout Jew and a representative of Orthodoxy on the board of the Jewish community in Berlin .

He is buried in the Jewish cemetery Schönhauser Allee in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg.
