prehistory

Only a short time after the release of the previous album First Impressions of Earth , the band announced writing work on a new album. However, after reports of quarrels and drug problems within the band emerged, the album was a long time coming. According to other rumors, Casablancas had to record separately from the rest of the band because of his stubbornness. Finally around five years after the announcement and various solo projects of individual band members with relatively little success, Angles was released.

criticism

Jakob Rondthaler from laut.de described Angles as the third best album so far. The album easily surpasses the expectations, which have been lowered in advance by reports of arguments and drug problems, and shows, if not quite as good as previous albums, hardly any weak points and many new ideas.

Kevin Holtmann from plattentests.de criticized the fact that not all of the ten tracks are convincing, but the Strokes remain true to their style and deliver a good album considered as a whole. They remain relevant in the rock scene.

Metacritics rated the album with a score of 71/100. Angles picks up the sound from the 2001 debut album with small updates and a garage rock feeling.
