(35618) Tartu is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 25 April 1998 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory in Chile ( IAU code was discovered 809).
(35618) Tartu was named on January 22, 2008 after the second largest city in Estonia, Tartu , which is the seat of the University of Tartu and where the historic Dorpat observatory was founded in 1811 .
