Anita Bay Bundegaard

Anita Bay Bundegaard (born October 31, 1963 in Tejn ) is a Danish journalist and politician of the left-wing liberal party Radical Venstre . From December 2000 to November 2001 she was the development minister of her country. She has been with Save the Children since 2013 .

Life

Bundegaard began studying English and Spanish at the University of Copenhagen . From 1994 to 1996 she worked as a program assistant at Danmarks Radio (DR) in Rønne , then until 1998 she worked as an editor for the magazine Højskolebladet . Between 1998 and 2000 she was an editor for the daily Politiken . She ran in 1994 and 1998 as a candidate in the election for the Folketing and in 1994 for the election of the EU Parliament for her party Radical Venstre . On December 21, 2000, Bundegaard was appointed Minister of Development in the Poul Nyrup Rasmussen IV government. In February 2001, she presented a law that would have extended the asylum criteria to include people fleeing poverty. However, your proposal was not supported in the Danish parliament , neither by the opposition nor by your own party. She held her ministerial office until she left the government on November 27, 2001.

Bundegaard then worked as a consultant at the UNHCR in Geneva between 2002 and 2006 . Then she went back to the Danish newspaper Politiken, where she became the cultural editor. In 2010 she became chairwoman of Red Barnet , the Danish branch of Save the Children . In 2013 she received the post of International Advocacy Director in the parent organization Save the Children in Geneva. In March 2019 it was announced that Bundegaard would become the director of Save the Children's EU office in Brussels .
