There she researched network communities , user participation, the future of journalism, the management of media companies ( media entrepreneurship ) and strategic innovation management in journalism. In particular, she focused on the question of how the media can better interact with their (online) communities. In September 2014, Zielina left Gruner + Jahr on her own initiative.

In May 2015 she became editor-in-chief for Neue Zürcher Zeitung for new products. At the beginning of 2017, the Board of Directors of NZZ appointed her Head of Digital Products (Chief Product Officer). She resigned from the editor-in-chief and became a member of the NZZ management team. In this role she was responsible for the further development of the existing and the development of new digital products of the NZZ Medien as well as the regional media of the NZZ Group. At the beginning of November 2017, the NZZ Group announced that Zielina would leave the company at the end of the year.
