background

In 1732 the "Anna-Thomsen" foundation was established in Schiffbrücke 56, which apparently remained in the aforementioned port building in the following decades until the house was sold around 1890. In 1891/92 a new monastery building was finally erected 500 meters further on Junkerholweg . In the course of time, a number of monastery buildings emerged in Flensburg , such as the Munketoftstift in downtown Flensburg or the Rönnenkamp Stift in Fruerlund . The Nackestift had been erected a year earlier right next to the new monastery building in Neustadt . The two-storey Anna-Thomsen-Stift, made of yellow brick with ornamented horizontal brick strips , was created according to plans by the city architect Otto Fielitz , it is similar in shape to the neighboring neckstick. On the east side of the Anna-Thomsen-Stift there is an entrance portal with a Gothic framing with the year 1891. Directly to the right of the portal, the old, sandstone foundation plaque was set into the masonry. The wording of this inscription is: “Seel. Lorenz Lorentzen Lorck and Seel. Christian Thomasen beede her surviving widow Anna Thomsen had this poor house built as 6 apartments in honor of God and for the benefit of the poor and free housing. Anno 1732. “ The new monastery building with the address Stiftstrasse 3 received eight poor houses, each with a kitchen and living room. Following the establishment of the Anna-Thomsen-Stift, the Junkerhohlweg barracks were built from 1893–1897 based on plans by Otto Fielitz. Up until the turn of the millennium, the monastery building was used as a municipal poor house. After standing empty for several years, it was renovated in 2005. In the attic apartment there is now a holiday apartment for four to six people.
