Anna Di Lellio

Anna Di Lellio is a sociologist , journalist and former UN consultant. She wrote several articles related to the UN presence in Kosovo and Iraq .

Life

Di Lellio doctorate in sociology at Columbia University , holds a Master of Management of Non-profit and Public Policy of New York University and a Bachelor in Philosophy at the University of Perugia , Italy.

She worked as a consultant for the United Nations World Food Program in Kosovo and East Timor until 1999 and from 2003 as coordinator of the 5,000-man Kosovo Protection Corps (KPC), whose members were often recruited from the KLA . From 2001 to 2003 she was the " Media Commissioner of Kosovo " on behalf of the OSCE . Then she wrote in the Guardian about media law and politics in so-called " post-conflict areas ", in which she called the expulsion of Serbs from Kosovo an ethnic cleansing .

On her return to New York, she was appointed by the UN as director of communications for Paul Volcker 's " Independent Commission of Inquiry " into the oil-for-food program. She ended this activity in September 2004 under pressure from the US government, because in an article for the Guardian (2002) she said that George W. Bush and Silvio Berlusconi were not very different from Osama bin Laden .

In 2005 she was an election observer for a human rights organization in Tajikistan and in 2006 she was an advisor to Kosovar Prime Minister Agim Çeku on behalf of the UNEP's Capacity Building Facility and the Kosova Foundation for Open Society (KFOS) of George Soros . Di Lellio warned Çeku that Kosovo would become partially independent would soon end in the political violence of the West Bank .

She is Associate Professor of International Relations at The New School (formerly New School University) in New York and the editor of The Case for Kosova: Passage to Independence , an anthology of essays on the future of Kosovo.
