Anna Gasteiger (born February 26, 1877 in Lübeck , † December 16, 1954 in Munich ) was a German painter .

Live and act

Anna Karolina Sophie Meyer (also Mayer) was the daughter of an architect and great-granddaughter of Joseph Christian Lillie . Even as a young girl she was enthusiastic about the Dutch painters of the 17th century. In 1894 Anna Meyer went to Munich and studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts there . As a student of Julius Exter , she met and fell in love with the sculptor Mathias Gasteiger , who ran a painting and sculpture school in Deutenhofen Castle near Dachau . The artist mainly painted in the Dachau area, mostly in the great outdoors, landscapes and still lifes with flowers.

In 1902 the Gasteigers bought a large piece of land in Holzhausen am Ammersee and built a summer house there. Soon other artists moved to this scenic location and over time a small artist colony developed . In their 1919 villa in the Gern district of Munich , the couple organized numerous artist festivals.

The painter had u. a. Exhibitions in Dresden and especially in Munich.

Artistic work

Your pictures work through the luminosity of their colors; the brushwork is loose and lively. The large bouquets of flowers in vases and glasses, which were published as flower calendars in 1933 and 1939, are mostly painted against the light, on a smoothly polished, shiny table top in which they are reflected. She prefers to paint in oil, whereby the application of paint always appears impasto. While the style of painting and themes have hardly changed over time, the composition in later works became a bit more rigid and the color mood less expressive .
