Anna Maria Brentel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anna Maria Brentel (also Brendlerin , Brentlerin , Brentlein , married Schwarz ; born January 14, 1613 in Strasbourg , † 1633 there ) was a German miniature painter , draftsman and etcher .

Life

Anna Maria Brentel was a daughter of the miniature painter and copper engraver Friedrich Brentel and his wife Anna geb. Brackenhoffer and the younger sister of Hans Friedrich Brentel . She learned the painting trade from her father at an early age and worked in his workshop. On August 2, 1630, she married the seal cutter Johann Israel Schwarz, the son of an Augsburg notary. Their miniatures were in the collections of the two Strasbourg art chambers of the 17th century (five with Elias Brackenhoffer and one with Balthasar Künast ). Her works are certainly hidden among the numerous unsigned works from her father's workshop.

The signed works by Anna Maria Brentel preserved today are copies. She fitted in well with her father's copyist business in the early 1630s. Her father's influence is unmistakable in the choice of motifs and even in the way of the signature.
