Anna Sacconi

Anna Sacconi (born July 28, 1938 ) is an Italian classical philologist and mycenaeologist .

Life

Sacconi studied Classical Philology at the La Sapienza University in Rome and received the Laurea there . Afterwards she was assistant at the chair for Greek and since 1975 full professor for the Aegean cultures. From 1988 to 2010 she was responsible for Mycenaean Philology in the Greek Department. From 1974 to 1987 she was director of the Istituto per gli Studi Micenei ed Egeo-Anatolici of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche . Her duties included the publication of the Incunabula Graeca series and the journal Studi Micenei ed Egeo-Anatolici . She currently publishes the Pasiphae magazine and the Biblioteca di Pasiphae series with Louis Godart . Since 1981 she has been the representative of Italy in the Comité International Permanent des Études Mycéniennes (CIPEM). Since 2003 she has been a member of the Società Italiana di Glottologia . She also contributed to the Studies in Mycenaean Inscriptions and Dialect (Austin, Texas, USA).

Research priorities

Sacconi mykenologische activities are divided into three areas: 1) Edition of texts in Linear B ; 2) philological and epigraphic study of the Mycenaean texts and study of the relations of the Mycenaean world with the Hellenic world of the 1st millennium BC Chr .; 3) Study of the archaeological context of the Mycenaean texts and participation in and management of excavation work in Crete . In the first area she is involved as an author and co-author in the creation of corpora of the Linear B texts from Pylos , Knossos , Mycenae and Thebes . Another topic is the relationship between the Mycenaean and Homeric worlds and the history of the Mycenaean world as a whole, including the relationship to the nearby ancient Orient .
