Research priorities

The Phaistos disc : redrawing with field numbering after Louis Godart

Godart is working on the edition and interpretation of the documents that have come down to us in the Linear A and Linear B scripts , as well as on the other Aegean writing systems . He was involved in the editing of relevant collections of the documents in Cretan hieroglyphics , in Linear A and Linear B script. For the Phaistos Disc he has a Late Minoan dating between 1550 and the end of the 13th century BC. Proposed and submitted a detailed interpretation.

In 1982 he founded the archaeological mission entrusted with the excavation of the Minoan settlement of Apodoulou , Crete, operated by the University of Naples Fedrico II and the Greek Ministry of Culture under the direction of Giannis Tzedakis , the then General Director of Antiquities in Greece .

He has also organized various national and international congresses on the archeology and philology of the prehistory of the Mediterranean , including the Second International Mycenae Congress in Naples in 1992.
