Anna of Saxony (1420–1462)
Anna of Saxony (born June 5, 1420 , † September 17, 1462 in Spangenberg ) was a princess of Saxony and by marriage Landgravine of Hesse .
Life
Anna was the eldest daughter of Elector Friedrich I of Saxony (1370–1428) from his marriage to Katharina (1395–1442), daughter of Duke Heinrich I of Braunschweig .
Anna, endowed with a dowry of 19,000 Rhenish gold guilders, married Landgrave Ludwig I of Hesse on September 8, 1433 in Kassel . The engagement was announced on the occasion of the brotherhood of both houses in 1431 in Rotenburg an der Fulda . Through his marriage, Ludwig expanded his territory considerably. Anna received it back from Anna's brother Friedrich II. Eschwege and Sontra from Saxon property; Friedrich II also waived his rights to Wanfried .
