Annapurna Pictures is an American film production company based in California, Los Angeles .
history
The film production company was founded in 2011 by Megan Ellison , who had previously produced films such as True Grit . The name of the studio goes back to the Hindu goddess Annapurna .
Above all, Annapurna Pictures would like to "fund sophisticated, high-quality films that the major Hollywood studios would consider too risky". In 2012 Annapurna invested in the film production company Panorama Media , which was later renamed Annapurna International . The company publishes computer games under the Annapurna Interactive label .
Directors such as David O. Russell have hailed Ellison as the savior of independent film. However, analysts also blame their virtually unlimited funding for films that could not possibly get back on their production budget for a potential “Hollywood bubble”.
