Anne-Jules de Noailles, Duke of Noailles (born February 5, 1650 in Paris, † October 2, 1708 in Versailles) was the second Duke of the Noailles family and Marshal of France (from 1693). He was one of the highest generals in France towards the end of the reign of King Louis XIV.

Life

He commanded troops in Flanders in 1680 . In the Palatinate War of Succession (1688–1697) he commanded troops in Roussillon against the Huguenots in 1689 , against whom he showed great leniency and forgiveness, and in Catalonia from 1690 to 1694 , where on May 27, 1694 he fought the Battle of the Ter (near Torroella de Montgrí ) won. He also took part in the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714). He later fell out of favor with the king for the sake of his brother, Cardinal Louis-Antoine de Noailles .

family

He was the son of Anne de Noailles and Louise Boyer . When his father died in 1678, he inherited the title of duke. He married Marie-Françoise de Bournonville . One of his daughters, Marie-Victoire , married one of Louis XIV's illegitimate children , Louis-Alexandre de Bourbon, comte de Toulouse .
