Life

Anne-Sophie Bion began to gain a foothold in French cinemas as an assistant editor in the mid-2000s. She was involved for the first time in Douglas Gordon's and Philippe Parreno's documentary Zidane - A Portrait in the 21st Century (2006) about the French football player of the same name , on which she worked with Hervé Schneid and Enrica Gattolini . By 2011, more than a dozen other film projects in which she was hired as an assistant editor should follow, including both feature films, documentaries and short films. Again with Gattolini, Bion worked on Lola Doillon's youth film Et toi t'es sur qui? (2007) and Joana Hadjithomas ' and Khalil Joreige in Lebanon settled History stripes Let me see (2008) with Catherine Deneuve together. Repeatedly she also worked with Marie-Pierre Renaud , they attach section of Audrey Estrougos award-winning youth drama Regarde-moi (2007) and Jean-Paul Salomé's Female Agents - secret command Phoenix Compatible (2008). This was followed by a long-term collaboration with Hervé Schneid, who Bion worked on in the editing process of the award-winning French productions Public Enemy No. 1 - Murder Instinct and Public Enemy No. 1 - Death Drive (both 2008), Micmacs - We Own Paris! (2009) and Sarahs Schlüssel (2010).

In 2011 the first film projects followed for Bion as the sole editor. Her first film was Michel Hazanavicius ' award-winning tragicomedy The Artist , which was conceived in a silent film format of 1.33: 1 in black and white pictures with subtitles and almost no spoken text. Hazanavicius had been looking for a young film editor with no "rigidity" . Bion worked a lot with the director, who was so closely involved with his film project that he refused to look at their cut versions at first. “It was pretty hard to find my place first. But Michel shared a lot and gave me the best present to work on the film, ” said Bion. Hervé Schneid had taught her not to pay attention to the tone during the editing process and to let the images work silently for her, which she benefited from at The Artist . The placement of the subtitles turned out to be more difficult, after which Bion saw numerous silent films in preparation. She was also guided by the facial expressions of the actors, who gave her a certain rhythm and read the lines of dialogue from the actors' lips, according to her own statements.

For her performance on The Artist , Bion was nominated for the Oscar , the French César , the US Broadcast Film Critics Association Award and won the Eddie Award of the American Cinema Editors, together with the co-editor Hazanavicius . In the same year she edited Christophe Barratier's adventure film War of Buttons .
