Anne Dorthe Tanderup (born April 24, 1972 in Aarhus ) is a former Danish handball player . In her sport she became an Olympic and world champion.

Career

Tanderup started her career as a handball player in the youth team of Brabrand IF . In the early 1990s, the back court player was briefly active in the permanent winner of the Austrian state championship Hypobank Samsung (later Hypo Niederösterreich) , with which she won the Champions League in addition to the state championship . She then returned to Denmark and spent the rest of her athletic career at Viborg HK . During the following years, Viborg HK was Danish champion four times in a row, won the Danish Cup three times and the EHF Cup in 1994 . 1997 reached Tanderup with Viborg HK the finals of the Champions League, there the team was subject to Mar Valencia .

Tanderup played 88 international matches for the Danish women's national handball team , in which they scored 180 goals. With Denmark she won the Olympic gold medal in 1996 . She also won the European Championship in 1994 and 1996 . After the second place at the World Cup in 1993 and the third at the World Cup in 1995 , it was finally in 1997 also world champion .

In the course of her athletic career, Tanderup had repeatedly struggled with knee injuries. At the 1997 World Cup, she injured her knee so badly that she had to end her career abruptly at the age of 25. Since then she has suffered from chronic pain.

Private

After the sudden end of her career as a handball player, Tanderup withdrew from the public for a long time. After completing an apprenticeship in 2008, she now works as a nutritionist . In her book "Min vej til et sundt liv" (Danish: "My way to a healthy life"), published in 2013, she describes the realignment of her life after her athletic career.

Tanderup is married to former professional cyclist and Tour de France winner Bjarne Riis , whom she met at the 1996 Olympic Games . She lives in Lugano with her husband and their four sons .
