Anne Tardos (born December 1, 1943 in Cannes ) is a French - American author and multimedia artist .

life and work

Anne Tardos was born in 1943 as the daughter of the Hungarian writer Tibor Tardos and the Austrian radio producer Berthe Tardos. In 1948 the family moved to Budapest . In 1957 Anne Tardos came to Vienna and in 1961 began studying acoustic guitar and piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . After stays in Paris and New York, Anne Tardos settled in New York in 1966 and studied at the Art Students League of New York from 1967 to 1970 . In 1972 the video installation "Apple Eaters" was shown in The Kitchen in New York. In 1974 Anne Tardos moved into a loft apartment in Soho Manhattan and made friends with Simone Forti , Nam June Paik , Shigeko Kubota , Charlotte Moorman , George Maciunas , Ay-O , Emmett Williams and Robert Filliou .

From 1976 to 1978 Tardos was married to the Israeli sculptor Oded Halahmy. She met Jackson Mac Low (1922-2004) in 1975 , with whom she worked from 1978 and whom she married in 1990. Tardos has been married to the composer Michael Byron (* 1953) since 2012 .

Anne Tardos is the author of seven multilingual (French, Hungarian, German, English) volumes of poetry and has been a visiting professor at numerous American universities.

The multimedia performance “Among Men” was premiered in 1994 by SEMEnsemble New York and later produced by Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln .

Exhibitions (selection)

Anne Tardos' visual works have been shown at the Biennale di Venezia , Venice, the Museum of Modern Art , New York and the Whitney Museum of American Art . She worked with Alison Knowles and Sorrel Hays for documenta 8 in Kassel .
