Annelies Bredael

Annelies Bredael (born June 15, 1965 in Willebroek ) is a former Belgian rower in the one who became Belgian athlete of the year in 1992 .

In 1988 Bredael took part in the Olympic Games for the first time and finished sixth with the Belgian double foursome. In 1989 she switched to the single and was eighth at the World Cup straight away. In 1991 she finished third at the World Championships in Vienna behind the Canadian Silken Laumann and the Romanian Elisabeta Lipa . At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, ​​Bredael won the second heat and finished second behind Laumann in the second semifinals, while Lipa won ahead of Bredael and Laumann in the final.

In 1993 Bredael won the World Cup, but did not receive a medal at the World Cup. In 1994 she won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Indianapolis behind the Danish Trine Hansen and the German Kathrin Boron . Bredael won her third World Cup bronze medal after 1991 and 1994 in the Finnish ´Tampere behind the Swedes Maria Brandin and Silken Laumann. At the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 , Bredael did not reach the A final and finished in seventh place.

The rower from TRT Hazewinkel is a mother of three and is still active as a rower. At the age of over 40, she competed at the Belgian championships with Ann Haesebrouck , who won bronze in a single at the 1984 Olympic Games. Haesebrouck and Bredael sat together in a quad scull in 1988.
