Anneliese Poppinga (born October 3, 1928 in Lübeck ; † April 16, 2015 ) was a German political scientist and close associate of Konrad Adenauer .

Life

Anneliese Poppinga was the daughter of an officer from Lübeck. After graduating from high school, she went to London and worked there at the German embassy to finance her studies. In 1951 she got a job as a secretary in the Foreign Office . In 1954 she began studying law in Bonn and continued to work for the Foreign Office. In 1955 she went to Tokyo for three years as secretary to the German ambassador Hans Kroll .

In 1958 she began working as Konrad Adenauer's secretary in the anteroom of the Federal Chancellery in Palais Schaumburg .

Even after Adenauer resigned from the office of Federal Chancellor in 1963, she continued to work for him as a research assistant and collaborator on his four-volume “Memories”. After Adenauer's death in 1967, she took care of the written estate.

In 1969 she resumed her interrupted studies, studied political science, modern history and international law in Munich and completed it in 1974 with the dissertation on The Fundamental in the Politics of Konrad Adenauer in his self-image as a Dr. phil. from. Your doctoral supervisor was Nikolaus Lobkowicz . Subsequently, she headed the Konrad-Adenauer-Archiv in Rhöndorf and worked as managing director of the Federal Chancellor Adenauer House Foundation until 1990 . After retiring, she became a member of the foundation's scientific advisory board.

She published several books about Konrad Adenauer, including, at the suggestion of Arnulf Baring, her memories of Adenauer's last days, which she had witnessed in his Rhöndorfer house.

Anneliese Poppinga died on April 16, 2015 near Frankfurt am Main .
