Annie Was a Wonder is a 1948 American short film directed by Edward L. Cahn .
action
Shortly after the end of the First World War , around 45,000 emigrants came to America every year. Among other things, they worked as domestic servants and earned little more than $ 15 a month. One day, Annie Swenson from Sweden came to the Nesbitt family. The Nesbitts and their two sons had never had a maid, but they needed one now that Mother Nesbitt was pregnant. Annie, who could only speak broken English, caused controversy on the first day because the older son of the family played a prank on her when she watered the garden and she then sprayed both boys in the joke. Father Nesbitt, seeing Annie like this for the first time, ordered Annie to pack her things and leave the house the next day. In the evening, however, it turned out that Annie was the best cook at home economics school in Sweden and in fact she gets Father Nesbitt to withdraw her notice given her cooking skills.
Over the next few years, Annie proves to be a pearl in the house, works tirelessly and at the same time diligently learns American history in order to pass the naturalization test after five years. However, shortly before this, she doubts whether she should return to Sweden after all, even if she has fallen in love with compatriot Gus. When one of the two sons told her, however, that the mother said that Annie could have a child because " our Annie can do everything", Annie is touched. She decides that a country where even the maids are part of the family must be a good country. She is not going back to Sweden, but marries Gus. This will be the last time the family will see Annie.
