Edward L. Cahn
Edward L. Cahn (born February 12, 1899 in New York , † August 25, 1963 in Los Angeles ) was an American film director and film editor .
Life
Cahn attended the University of California, Los Angeles from 1917 . During his studies he worked as assistant director and editor on four films by actress Alla Nazimova . In 1926 he became chief editor at Universal .
Five years later, Cahn began directing, and his second film, The Western Law and Order , received a lot of attention. In the following years, however, Cahn developed into a typical "assembly line director" who directed up to a dozen crime films, war films and horror films each year. So he became a busy, but also as "Edward L. Can't" ("Edward L. Can't") ridiculed creator of numerous B- and C-films .
His brother Philip Cahn (1894–1984) worked as a film editor, as did his nephew Dann Cahn (1923–2012).
