Annik Honoré

Annik Honoré (born October 12, 1957 in Mons , Belgium ; † July 3, 2014 ) was a Belgian journalist , concert promoter and co-founder of the independent label Les Disques du Crépuscule . She became known through her liaison with Ian Curtis , the singer of the group Joy Division .

Life

Honoré was interested in rock music as a teenager and toured numerous concerts. In 1979 she moved to London , where she worked as a secretary at the Belgian embassy. Together with the journalist Michel Duval, she promoted several concerts at Plan K in Brussels , for which she hired the band Joy Division. In 1980 she founded Factory Benelux, a continental offshoot of the English Factory Records , as well as, with Duval and the designer Benoît Hennebert, her own independent label Les Disques du Crépuscule , with which Antena , Cabaret Voltaire , Josef K, Ludus, Malaria! or Tuxedomoon released phonograms. Honoré also promoted Belgian bands such as Digital Dance, Front 242 , Marine and The Names.

She met Ian Curtis in August 1979. According to her own statement in an interview, she connected "a purely platonic friendship " with the musician , whereas Curtis' wife Deborah Curtis saw the relationship as a love affair. In Anton Corbijn's film biography Control from 2007, Annik Honoré is played by the German actress Alexandra Maria Lara .

In the mid-1980s Annik Honoré left the music business and worked for the EU in Brussels. She died in July 2014 after a lengthy illness at the age of 56, leaving behind two children.
