Anstruther Wester Parish Church

The Anstruther Wester Parish Church , also St Nicolas' Church , is a former church building of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland in the Scottish town of Anstruther in the Council Area Fife . In 1972 the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The architectural history of the church is complex. It goes back to a medieval church from 1243, of which only fragments that have been integrated into the current structure have survived. The bell tower, however, can be dated to the 16th century. The current hall church was possibly built in 1761, but the year of construction is the basis of discussions. Another construction phase was carried out in 1846. The interior was renovated around 1930. After the parish was merged with that of the Anstruther Easter Parish Church , the Nikolauskirche became obsolete. That is why it was rebuilt in 1970 and now serves as a community hall.
