Antonio Victorino de Almeida

António Victorino Goulart de Medeiros e Almeida (born May 21, 1940 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese composer , conductor , pianist and writer . Occasionally he also works as an actor and film director .

Life

António Victorino de Almeida finished his piano studies at the National Conservatory in Lisbon (with a grade of 19 out of 20) and went to the Vienna University of Music, where he studied with Karl Schiske . He graduated with a diploma in composition with the highest possible grade.

He then gave over 750 concerts with Erika Pluhar, among others . His main field of activity, however, remained composition. As he approached his 50th stage anniversary, four of his works (together with Liszt's piano sonata) were played by the pianist Ingeborg Baldaszti at the Bregenz Festival in 2003.

He has three daughters: the actress and singer Maria de Medeiros , for whose directorial debut Capitães de Abril (" Carnations for Freedom ", 2000) he also wrote the theme music and the theme for Madredeus , Inês de Medeiros (actress), and Ana Medeiros (Actress, violinist and composer).

In 1989 he joined the electoral list of the Movimento Democrático Português party (German: Democratic Movement of Portugal) in the European elections, where it became the sixth largest party in Portugal.

In 2005 he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Infante Dom Henrique .

His recordings should also be mentioned, for example the recordings of 19 Chopin waltzes that were awarded by Alfred Brendel or his recordings of American classics ( For Ever ) with Erika Pluhar. In his work he has also made an outstanding contribution to the further development of the Wienerlied .

António Victorino de Almeida wrote numerous books, both fiction (e.g. "Coca Cola Killer") and reports (e.g. "Polisário" / POLISARIO ) and music non-fiction.

In 2010 his autobiography "Ao Principio Era Eu" was published.

He was also the director of his self-written 1980 film A Culpa , which was the first Portuguese film to win a first prize abroad ( Huelva Film Festival 1980). He was also the author of the marble tables with Erika Pluhar and André Heller in the leading roles, and the ORF documentary Together . He was a cultural attachée at the Portuguese embassy in Vienna .

Occasionally he appeared as an actor, mostly in supporting roles.
