Anta 1 da Herdade da Ordem

The Anta 1 da Herdade da Ordem (also called Anta no Monte da Ordem I) is a megalithic complex of the Anta type in the Mora district ( concelho ) in Portugal . It has been classified as a Monumento Nacional since 1910 . Anta is the Portuguese name for around 5000 megalithic structures or dolmens , which were built during the Neolithic in the west of the Iberian Peninsula by the successors of the cardial or imprint culture .

location

The Anta is part of the Herdade da Ordem necropolis . The necropolis is on the side road from Avis to Cabeção , which branches off the main road N370 to Pavia . It is signposted and extends over the southwest flank of Monte da Ordem above the Ribeira de Almadafe, which flows a few kilometers down into the Ribeira da Seda. There are more megalithic structures on the Ribeira da Seda.

The Anta 1 da Herdade da Ordem used to be in the middle of a cork and holm oak grove . Today it is in the open.

structure

The corridor and chamber of the anta, including the unusually thick capstone protruding far to the rear, are relatively well preserved, while the corridor capstones are missing. The chamber consists of seven supporting stones that form a polygonal round without emphasizing the front stone. The floor plan of the fully booked corridor is reminiscent of the entrances to rock dome and dome graves.

From the excavations in the 19th century there are stone axes , arrowheads , pearls , as well as decorated and unadorned vessels in the Museu Nacional de Arqueologia , the national archaeological museum in Lisbon.
