Antanas Valionis (born September 21, 1950 in Zabieliškis , Kėdainiai district , Lithuanian SSR ) is a Lithuanian diplomat, former politician , member of the Naujoji sąjunga (socialliberalai) ( New Union ) party in the Lithuanian Parliament ( Seimas ).

Life

Antanas Valionis studied mechanical engineering at the Kauno politechnikos institutas in Kaunas . In 1974 he completed his studies with a degree in mechanical engineering . From 1976 to 1980 he worked in Tauragė . Valionis had been a KGB reservist since 1981 and held the rank of captain. From 1990 to 1994 studied at the University of Warsaw and obtained a doctorate in political science .

From 1996 to 2000 he was ambassador to Romania and Bulgaria . From October 30, 2000 to July 5, 2006 he was Foreign Minister of Lithuania. From 2004 to 2008 he was a member of the Lithuanian Seimas.
