Anthony Gerard Bosco

Anthony Gerard Bosco (born August 1, 1927 in New Castle ; † July 2, 2013 in Greensburg ) was the Catholic Bishop of Greensburg .

Life

Anthony Gerard Bosco studied Philosophy and Catholic Theology at St. Fidelis Seminary in Butler County and Saint Vincent Seminary in Latrobe. On June 7, 1952, he was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Pittsburgh . He studied canon law at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome . From 1957 he was active in pastoral care in Pittsburgh. In 1968 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. appointed monsignor . He was chaplain of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh and chaplain of the Divine Missionary Sisters in Ross Township.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on May 14, 1970 titular bishop in Labicum and auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. The Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy, John Joseph Cardinal Wright , consecrated him bishop on June 30 of that year ; Co- consecrators were Vincent Martin Leonard , Bishop of Pittsburgh, and John Bernard McDowell , Auxiliary Bishop of Pittsburgh.

On April 2, 1987, he was appointed Bishop of Greensburg by Pope John Paul II and was introduced to the office on June 30 of the same year. On January 2, 2004, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

He is the namesake of The Bishop Anthony G. Bosco Center in North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.
