Anthony Gogo Nwedo

Anthony Gogo Nwedo CSSp (* 1912 in Oguta , British West Africa ; † February 12, 2000 ) was a Nigerian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Umuahia .

Life

Anthony Gogo Nwedo joined the Congregation of the Holy Ghost in and received on 29 July 1945, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On February 19, 1959, Pope John XXIII appointed him . to the first bishop of Umuahia. The Archbishop of Onitsha , Charles Heerey CSSp, donated him episcopal ordination on May 17th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Owerri , Joseph Brendan Whelan CSSp, and the auxiliary bishop in Onitsha, John of the Cross Anyogu .

On April 2, 1990, Pope John Paul II accepted Nwedo’s request to resign on grounds of age.

Anthony Gogo Nwedo attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council .
