Antimony (III) iodide is an inorganic chemical compound of antimony from the group of iodides .

Extraction and presentation

Antimony (III) iodide can be obtained by reacting antimony with iodine in benzene , carbon disulphide or tetrachloroethane .

It can also be produced by reacting antimony (III) chloride with boron triiodide .

Antimony (III) iodide is a ruby ​​red solid that decomposes in water and air to form antimony oxide iodide SbOI. Its aqueous solution is acidic. It forms complex salts with alkali iodides. It has a crystal structure of the bismuth (III) iodide type. The compound also occurs in a yellow-green monoclinic modification.
