Antoine Cirri

Antonio "Antoine" Cirri (* 1952 in Reggio di Calabria ) is an Italian - Belgian jazz musician ( drums ).

Cirri began playing drums at the age of ten. Since 1978 he played first as a drummer in rock bands before he came to jazz through the trumpeter Milou Struvay . In the 1970s he played in the Liège music scene a. a. with Jacques Pelzer , Robert Jeanne and Jean Linsman , as well as with American musicians living in Liège such as the pianist Ron Wilson and the saxophonist Lou McConnell . He also played with musicians of the younger generation such as André Klenes , Roben Wolf and Pierre Peusgen ; In addition, he dealt with classical percussion / drums and attended the improvisation class at the Liège Conservatory, where he had lessons with Steve Lacy , Butch Morris and Karl Berger .

In the 1980s, Cirri worked as a professional musician in the formation Maydance (around Albert Wastiaux ), with whom the first recordings were made in 1983, in the quintet of Pirly Zurstrassen , with Kris Delfort ( Diva Smiles , 1986), Guy Harmel , in the Heliotrope Quartet , Pierre Vaiana ( El Dorado , 1989), also with John Ruocco and Serge Lazarevitch . In the field of improvisational music, he worked with Garrett List , Barre Phillips , Maggie Nichols , Jim Denley, Noah Howard and Daunik Lazro . With Pierre Vaiana he founded the sonastory (with Mimi Verderame, Adrien Verderame, Patricia d'Antona and Marina Pittau).

In the field of jazz, he was involved in nine recording sessions between 1983 and 2013, most recently with the Michel Mainil Quartet Featuring Lisa Rosillo ( Spanish Jazz Project ).
