Anton Johann Jungmann , from 1850 Knight von Jungmann , often also Antonín Jan Jungmann (born May 19, 1775 in Hudlitz , † April 10, 1854 in Prague ) was a Bohemian obstetrician .
Life
Jungmann attended grammar school in Prague and joined the order of the Bohemian Brothers in Leipnik in 1797 . However, he left this after a short time and then went to Prague. He began studying medicine at the University of Prague . To finance his studies, he taught in the house of the natural scientist Joseph Gottfried Mikan , who is said to have had a great influence on Jungmann. In November 1803 he received his master's degree in obstetrics. On December 7, 1805 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD . In 1805/1806 he worked as an assistant at the medical clinic, then went to Moravia as a general practitioner for noble families , but returned to Prague in 1807.
In 1808 Jungmann became a deputy chair for theoretical and practical obstetrics at Prague University. On May 1, 1811, he was given the position of full professor of obstetrics, teaching in Czech and German. He was also given the position of historian in the medical faculty. He was rector of the university in 1839 and was awarded the title of Imperial Councilor in 1841 .
Jungmann was retired in 1850 and was awarded the Austrian Imperial Leopold Order . He has been associated with it in the erbländischen knighthood raised . From his private fortune he donated an extensive library to the faculty.
The linguist Josef Jungmann was his brother. The Prague school he founded in the field of obstetrics included Franz Kiwisch von Rotterau , who was his successor on the chair in obstetrics, Friedrich Wilhelm Scanzoni von Lichtenfels and Ferdinand Weber von Ebenhof .
