Franz Kiwisch from Rotterau
Franz Kiwisch , from 1850 knight of Rotterau (born April 30, 1814 in Klattau , Bohemia, † October 29, 1852 in Prague ), was a Bohemian gynecologist and obstetrician.
Life
Franz Kiwisch, the son-in-law of the physician Ignaz Ritter von Nadherny (1787–1867), studied medicine at the Charles University in Prague from 1832. med. and Dr. chir., assistant at the obstetric clinic and in 1838 secondary doctor at the birthing center. With the physician Franz Freiherr von Pitha (1810–1875) he undertook study trips to France, Germany, Denmark and England in 1840, from 1841 he worked in the medical department of the Bohemian state government in Prague and as a district doctor in Bydzow and Beraun .
In 1842 Kiwisch became a private lecturer in gynecology and ordaining physician at the General Hospital in Prague . After the death of Josef Servas d'Outrepont (1775-1845) he was appointed to his chair for obstetrics at the University of Würzburg in 1845 and was director of the maternity clinic and midwifery school there.
As the successor to Anton Johann Ritter von Jungmann , he was appointed professor of obstetrics at the University of Prague in 1850.
He was the founder of modern obstetrics through the development of the uterine mirror and the uterine probe.
