Anton Žlogar

Anton Žlogar (born November 24, 1977 in Izola , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Slovenian football player . The midfielder , who took part in the 2000 European Championship with the Slovenian national team , currently plays for Pordenone Calcio in Italy .

Athletic career

Club career

Žlogar played for Belvedur Izola in his youth . In the early 1990s he made his debut for the club in the Slovenska Nogometna Liga . Until 1996 he ran for the club first class, after relegation he moved within the league to NK Primorje . At his new club he established himself as a regular goalscorer and was runner-up with the team in 1997 behind Maribor Branik . In addition, the team moved into the cup final, in which the champions secured the double after a 0-0 draw in the first final game with goals from Amir Karič , Viktor Pačo and Zvjezdan Ljubobratović in the second leg . Also in the following year Žlogar remained without a title win, in the cup final he failed with his club at Rudar Velenje despite a 2-1 first leg success after goals from Patrik Ipaveć and Borivoje Lučić when Zoran Pavlovič conceded goals from two-time goalscorers Željko Vidojevič and Aleš Purgevič again missed winning the title with a 3-0 defeat in the final.

In 1998 Žlogar moved on within the first Slovenian league and signed a contract with ND Gorica . With the national champion of 1996 he missed his first title wins in his first two years as runner-up behind NK Maribor . In his third year he scored twelve goals for the club, but he was only seventh for his team. However, he reached the cup final again. Against NK Olimpija Ljubljana he entered the scorers list after a 0-1 first leg defeat in the second leg and celebrated winning the national cup with a 4-2 final win. After the end of the season he moved to the final opponent, where he played as a regular player in the following three and a half years. In 2003 he won the national cup with the club for the second time in his career, as audience Celje was defeated by a 1-1 home draw and a 2-2 away draw, in which he was one of the goalscorers, according to the away goals rule .

During the winter break of the 2004/05 season, Žlogar left his home country and moved to Cyprus. His first stop was Enosis Neon Paralimni in the First Division , for which he ran for a season and a half. In the summer of 2006 he moved to Anorthosis Famagusta . While he landed with the club in third place in the league, he won the national cup against Omonia Nicosia with the team . The championship title followed in the following season, when the team remained undefeated in their 32 games of the season. Nevertheless, he subsequently left the club and moved to Omonia within the league.

National team

Žlogar made his debut for the national team in 2000. In the summer of that year, national coach Srečko Katanec appointed him alongside a number of legionnaires as one of six players active in his home country alongside Marko Simeunovič , Marinko Galič , Amir Karič , Milan Osterc and Dejan Nemec in the squad for the European Championship in Belgium and the Netherlands. In the games against Yugoslavia , Spain and Norway he was not used and could not prevent the elimination after the end of the preliminary round. In the following years he was a regular member of the national team, but another tournament participation failed. In the course of 2008 he lost his regular place in the national team.
