Anton Emil Friedrich Sieffert (often just Friedrich Sieffert ; born December 24, 1843 in Königsberg (Prussia) , † October 30, 1911 in Bonn ) was a German Reformed theologian and university professor.

Life

Sieffert, a son of the Königsberg theology professor Friedrich Ludwig Sieffert , studied Protestant theology at the universities of Königsberg , Halle and Berlin from 1861 . His most important teachers were Bernhard Weiß and Isaak August Dorner . In 1867 he received his doctorate in theology in Königsberg and qualified as a private lecturer in the New Testament . In 1871 he was inspector at the Evangelical Theological pen in Bonn and taught at the local university , in 1873 as an associate professor.

As the successor to Johann Jakob Herzog , Sieffert was appointed to the chair of Reformed Theology at the University of Erlangen in 1878 . Here he mainly read about topics from dogmatics and ethics, but also continued to deal with New Testament exegesis. In 1886 he founded the Reformed Seminary. In the academic year 1888/89 he was Vice Rector of the university.

Immediately afterwards he was able to return to Bonn as a full professor of systematic theology , where he taught until his death. The theology of Johannes Calvin remained a special focus . In 1899/1900 he took over the rectorate of Bonn University. In 1896 he became a part-time member of the Consistory of the Rhine Province. He volunteered in the Provincial Committee for Inner Mission and on the board of the Godesheim orphanage near Godesberg.
