Emmerich from Arco-Valley
Emmerich Graf von und zu Arco auf Valley (born February 8, 1852 in Munich , † July 14, 1909 in Petrópolis in the state of Rio de Janeiro ) was a German diplomat .
Life
His parents were Anna Margherita Maria Juliana Pelina Contessa Marescalchi (born August 28, 1813) and Maximilian Graf von und zu Arco-Valley (born April 8, 1806) Graf Arco took part in the Franco-German War in 1870/71 . Then he studied law . He worked as a lawyer in Munich from 1879 to 1880 before switching to the diplomatic service. From 1880 to 1881 he was legation secretary in Brussels , from 1882 to 1885 he was embassy secretary in Rome , from 1886 to 1888 consul general in Alexandria , until 1891 he was first embassy secretary in Madrid , in 1897 he was in London .
Among other things, he was envoy to Tokyo (1901 to 1906), Athens (1906 to 1908) and Rio de Janeiro (1898 to 1900 and again in mid / late 1908 until death). During his time in Tokyo he was President of the German Society for Natural History and Ethnology of East Asia . He died of heart failure.
